Google Photos is first and foremost a storage application for all of your pictures and videos, but it also carries a suite of pretty nifty features that make it more than just an app for organizing and storing your photos. The generated videos, for example, are just one cool feature that users surely appreciate about the Google app that was announced during Google’s annual developer conference last year. This particular function isn’t too different from the generated videos you can find in Sony Xperia smartphones, and Google is making generated videos even better with the most recent update to the Google Photos application. The latest version should bring users up to version 1.19, but having said that, the update likely won’t be showing up for all users right away. Expect a rollout over the next few days or so before it makes its way to the majority of users.
As for the changes, Google is now making it possible for people to add their own custom music to the automatically generated videos that show up in the gallery from time to time. Prior to today’s update, Google Photos chose music for the video and users were stuck with whatever was given. Now you’ll be able to substitute music out for your own songs if you prefer to grab something from the local storage on your device. All users will have to do if they want to swap music out is hit the edit button, and then select music from the songs that appear after hitting the My Music button that’s displayed on-screen.
Also new in this version of the app is the ability to rename folders that are stored on the external SD card, as well as copy folders over from the SD card to the internal storage if a user wants to move it over to the device. Google Photos now has a couple of visual tweaks too, as the floating action button for searching within the app has now been removed, and has been replaced by a search bar up at the top of the app. Alongside the new search bar is an updated search interface design, having been altered from a screen of larger thumbnails to a list of category names. Users will likely notice other small visual changes as well, but nothing so drastic that it will make things feel unfamiliar.
