First Huawei P9 Camera Samples Surface

Huawei has introduced three new devices yesterday, two smartphones and a fitness tracker. The two phones are actually Huawei’s new flagship offerings, the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus. These two handsets sport premium design, and high-end specs, on top of which you also get Leica’s dual camera setup on the back. That being said, first P9 camera samples surfaced, so let’s check them out, shall we.

Now, Huawei talked quite a bit about these camera sensors during their press event actually, the two devices boast Sony’s IMX286 sensors on the inside (2 x 12-megapixel cameras), and shoot 1.25um pixel size images. All in all, these two cameras look great on paper, and if you’d like to know more about them, visit our separate Huawei P9 camera article. That being said, if you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll see several images taken with the Huawei P9’s camera, and also one image taken using the iPhone 6s. The image taken with the Huawei P9 and iPhone 6S (2nd and 3rd image in the gallery) are taken from the same angle, and the P9’s image looks far better. It definitely lets far more light enter the shot, which helped with details quite a bit. The colors are warmer, and the light in the background is not overexposed. Other images also look quite good, there’s plenty of detail in them, and even the last image in the gallery down below looks more than decent. That show was taken from a rooftop it seems, and it shows the landscape of a city at night. Smartphone cameras tend to distort such images, overexpose light, be quite dark and grainy, but not this one. As I’ve already mentioned, Huawei promised great photos coming from this camera, and we can’t wait to test our own unit.

The Huawei P9 & P9 Plus are both fueled by the company’s Kirin 955 64-bit octa-core processor, and they both sport two 12-megapixel cameras on the back. The two devices are identical in terms of the design, but are different in terms of size. The P9 Plus is a larger handset with a 5.5-inch display, while the P9 features a 5.2-inch panel, both are 1080p in resolution. The P9 comes in both 3GB and 4GB RAM flavors, while the P9 Plus is available only in 4GB RAM variant. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed here with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 4.1 available on top of it.
