LG Plans To Manufacture And Sell Low-End Handsets In India

LG has released several smartphones this year, and the LG G5 is the most notable release by this Korea-based company thus far. The company’s flagship was introduced back in February during the Mobile World Congress (MWC), and it is available only in South Korea and the US now, but its availability will expand soon. That being said, LG has also announced the K4, K5, K7, K8, K10, Stylus 2, X screen and X cam smartphones this year. Most of these devices were announced during CES or MWC, and these are mostly mid-range offerings.

That being said, it seems like LG is preparing to launch a new, low-end smartphone series designed especially for the Indian smartphone market. According to a report from Business Korea, this Korean smartphone manufacturer will release the devices called ‘Make In India’ and ‘True 4G’, both of which will be manufactured in India. The company will also introduce their new flagship in India next month, so they’ll basically hit both the low-end and high-end market segment. The company plans to start manufacturing low-end handsets in India before the end of this month, as they have signed an agreement with GDN Enterprises for using a plant for manufacturing smartphones. Keep in mind this plant won’t be manufacturing tons of devices though, it seems like LG is stepping into new territory with caution, which is probably a smart thing to do either way.

It is quite obvious that India is a targeted market for many smartphone manufacturers out there. The vast majority of Indian population doesn’t even own a smartphone yet, and various companies see an opportunity in this fact. LG already has a number of affordable devices out there, some of which are already listed in the first paragraph, but it seems like the ‘Make In India’ and ‘True 4G’ handsets will be more affordable than anything we’ve listed in this article. Either way, stay tuned, we’ll make sure to let you know as soon as more info surfaces, as always. LG might be one of the largest tech companies in the world, but due to fierce competition, the company will really need to step up this year in order not to lose market share.
