LG’s flagship smartphone for the year, the G5, is now in the hands of quite a few consumers and it’s already gaining praise for its modularity features. Like many manufacturers, LG tends to release multiple variants of a device alongside the original, although not always at the same time, and the G5 is no different as it will more than likely have at least one or two variants. Rumors from last week point to a possible launch of a device called the LG G5 SE, and although there is currently nothing known about the specifics of this device the branding has already been trademarked by LG as of last week, which makes it appear that the company already has the device in the works and is gearing up for a launch sometime later this year.
Along with the discovery of the trademark, rumors began to swirl that LG may have been looking to release the G5 SE as a slightly smaller version of the G5 simply because Apple has done this with the iPhone SE. This little bit of detail to go off of seemed like a logical reason to believe that LG might launch a smaller G5 model with this name, but newly discovered images of the LG G5 Quick Cover packaging seems to show that the case will be compatible with both the LG G5 and the LG G5 SE, which actually suggests that both phones will have the same size display and that the SE will not come to market as a smaller device offering.
What, if anything, is different about the LG G5 SE is unknown, but chances are it has to do with the internal hardware as opposed to the screen size. LG may even decide to use a display panel with lower resolution but based on the Quick Cover compatibility the screen will at least be at 5.3-inches. With nothing known about the LG G5 SE in terms of specifications or features, there is also no detail about which regions LG might launch the device in, which also means there is currently no information on a possible cost for this version of the phone.
