Google’s Play Games app is the perfect place for those who really enjoy their mobile games, acting as a hub for gamer profiles with lists of installed games and previously played titles, as well as associated gamer levels based on achievements completed and a place to see your friends and compared achievements and games. Up until now, Play Games has always required a Google+ sign-in whenever users would open up a game that had Play Games integrated into it, however, back at the end of January Google announced that they would be introducing a new Play Games Gamer ID system which would also come alongside the auto sign-in feature.
A few weeks later Google started implementing those changes and began to roll out the new system to a smaller number of users, but as of the last couple of days they have rolled out a new update to Play Games which brings it forward to version 3.7 and introduces the new Gamer ID system and the auto sign-in features for all users. This means that gamers will no longer be required to sign into Google+ every time they open up a game. Users will also be able to create a gamer ID username and choose an appropriate avatar to represent their profile.
Google is also giving users a little more control over things with Play Games in this update, as users can now mess with a few different privacy settings. Version 3.7 opens up the ability to keep gamer profile activities public or choose to hide those activities from everyone, including things like XP gains, player level, and gameplay activity. There are also a few new tick boxes on the settings screen, the main one now being the ability to sign into Play Games automatically. If you would rather still be asked to sign in each time, you can uncheck the box and Play Games will still prompt you when the time comes. There is also a new option for vibrate notifications, as well as the option for others to discover and find your profile by searching for your email address or your Gamer ID. Last but not necessarily least, this version of Play Games also has the new icon available that Google is using to streamline the look of all their “Play” apps.
