Not everyone is a fan of T-Mobile’s Music Freedom and Binge On (although more are fans of Music Freedom), with the whole Net Neutrality thing being a big topic as of late, as it should be. But the FCC has said that Binge On and Music Freedom are both great programs, so T-Mobile is carrying on. They’ve stated that since introducing Binge On, their partners have seen huge increases in the amount of mobile video being watched. And that’s because you can watch as much as you want without the fear of using up all of your data. Sounds like a good reason to keep watching.
Today, T-Mobile announced that 16 new services are being added to both of these services. Bringing the overall count to 100. According to their press release, Amazon Music, ESPN Radio, Dailymotion, EPIX, Nickelodeon, Spike, TV Land and many others are being added. These are only for qualifying plans (basically anything over 2GB of data gets Binge On). T-Mobile has a complete list of services that are part of Binge On and Music Freedom, on their website that you can check out.
Also in today’s announcement, the Uncarrier announced some other interesting facts and stats. Since Music Freedom was announced, their customers have streamed over 90 billion songs. And their customers are streaming 210 million songs each day. All without using any data. Legere also reiterated the fact that customers are watching twice the video on their smartphones now. And since launching Binge On late last year, there has been over 190 million hours of video streamed for free. Here’s the most telling stat, with both Music Freedom and Binge On, T-Mobile customers have saved over 30 petabytes of data. One Petabyte is equal to 1,000 terabytes or 1,000,000 gigabytes of data. That’s quite the amount of data right there.
It’s clear that T-Mobile’s customers love both Music Freedom and Binge On. And adding more and more services is always good to see. While many of the big names are already in both of these services, we’re starting to see some of the smaller ones make their way into T-Mobile’s whitelisting now. Always good to see.
