As most smartphone fans already know, the HTC 10 was officially introduced yesterday as the company’s latest metal-clad premium smartphone, boasting a new UltraPixel main camera and a fresh BoomSound audio setup, just to name a few. Shortly after the unveiling took place, T-Mobile USA was among the first carriers in the States to confirm that it will offer the new HTC flagship in its stores starting this May, and of course, the carrier’s announcement has been accompanied by a new extreme T-Mobile unboxing video featuring none other than the carrier’s Product Manager, Desmond Smith, who usually goes by the Twitter handle @AskDes.
T-Mobile’s previous unconventional unboxing videos have had the Samsung Galaxy S7 underwater and the LG G5 on a rally race track, and now the latest “Epic Unboxing” video starring the HTC 10 takes us on a helicopter ride at 10,000 feet in Las Vegas, Nevada. The video gives a preview of what customers can expect from the HTC 10 package once they open the box, and offers a quick look at some of the smartphone’s design cues, including the button and connector arrangement. Granted, it’s not the most detailed unboxing and much like T-Mobile’s other unusual unboxing videos, it’s more of a way to bring the smartphone into the spotlight for prospective customers.
T-Mobile’s Desmond Smith does mention that the HTC 10 is “all about camera”, and near the end of the video the Product Manager attempts to use the smartphone for capturing a selfie. However, not many technical details have been given so for readers who may be wondering, HTC’s latest flagship is equipped with a 12-megapixel main camera featuring optical image stabilization, a two-tone dual-LED flash, laser autofocus, a 1/2.3-inch sensor with 1.55-micron pixels, and an f/1.8 aperture. The front-facing camera has a resolution of 5 MP, an f/1.8 aperture, 1.34-micron pixels, HDR capabilities, 1080p video recording, and optical image stabilization. It sounds like a very promising package on paper, but it remains to be seen whether or not the HTC 10 camera has what it takes to compete with its biggest rivals in practice, including the Samsung Galaxy S7 and its famous Dual Pixel autofocus sensor.
