T-Mobile's Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S6 Edge Receive Android 6.0.1

Android N is expected to make the transition from ‘developer preview’ to full-release later this year and yet, most manufacturers and carriers have still not rolled out Marshmallow-based ROMs to their respective smartphones and tablets. While that situation is changing in recent times, it has been a painfully slow process for many users who are still waiting on the update from their carriers and/or OEMs. That being the case, a lot of smartphones from last year are yet to receive Android Marshmallow, which happens to be the latest full-release version of Google’s mobile operating platform. However, with more and more devices across carriers receiving Android 6.0, it is now the turn of T-Mobile to roll out the much-awaited update to Samsung’s 2015 flagship handsets, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Coming to some of the details regarding the incoming OTA update from T-Mobile, it will bring Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to the two aforementioned devices and while the carrier has already posted about the new software on its support pages for the two devices, no changelog has been provided whatsoever in either case. While the update for the Galaxy S6 (G920T) will bump up its baseband version to G920TUVU3EPD1, the Galaxy S6 Edge (G925T) will have its baseband version changed to G925TUVU3EPD1 after installing the new software. The downloads for both the devices are incredibly similar in size, with the Galaxy S6 package coming in at 1.31 GB while the Galaxy S6 Edge download weighing in at 1.32 GB.

The updates have just started rolling out as of Monday, April 11th and according to the carrier, the process will go on till April 13th, which is when all T-Mobile customers using the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge across the country should expect to get the new software on their devices, provided everything goes according to plan. Users should start getting notifications on their devices automatically once the update is ready to be rolled out but it can also be manually checked for, by going into Settings > About Device > Software Update. For the uninitiated, Android Marshmallow is the version of Android that was originally announced by Google as ‘Android M’ at Google I/O last year in San Francisco, CA and released officially just a few months later with its Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X handsets.
