Xiaomi is not only the number one smartphone manufacturer in China, but also one of the more interesting company’s out in the market. This company is not exactly only a smartphone manufacturer, they also released other devices, like tablets, smart TVs, fitness trackers… and even smart scales, smart purifiers, smart lightbulbs, etc. That being said, Xiaomi’s Mi Fan Festival revenue hit an all-time high yesterday, and the company seems to be doing good despite the fact they failed to reach their sales goal last year.
Anyhow, Xiaomi keeps on mentioning how important Indian smartphone market is to them, and it seems like they’re doing everything they possibly can to show that as well. Xiaomi has invested $25 million in an India-based digital media entertainment company, Hungama. In addition to that, the company has also organized a Mi Fan Festival sale in India yesterday as well, on their 6th birthday. Now, this isn’t all that surprising considering the fact they’ve conquered the largest smartphone market in the world (China), now they’re aiming to do the same to the second largest market (India). There are around 1.2 billion people living in India, and only 200 million of them own smartphones, which gives smartphone manufacturers plenty of space to earn some cash by selling devices. Xiaomi has entered the Indian smartphone market back in July 2014, and at the end of that year they were able to grab 1.5% of the smartphone market. They’ve doubled that number by the end of last year, and they expect to grow even more this year, as their focus on India has never been greater. Xiaomi has also started manufacturing smartphones in India last year, 75% of the device they sell in India are actually manufactured in that country as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
That’s more or less it, Xiaomi is just getting started in India, and even though they’re nowhere near Samsung (28.6% market share) or even Micromax (14.3% market share), Xiaomi is slowly, but surely getting attention in India. Xiaomi tends to sell really affordable devices, and the Indian smartphone market is made for such phones.
