As connected cars continue to hit the road with drivers behind the wheel, AT&T is preparing to power their connected experience with a new set of plan add-on options that it will be rolling out this week. According to AT&T’s details, Unlimited plan customers with specific connected cars, or the ZTE Mobley WiFi plug-in can tack two different data options onto their monthly plan cost. There will be a $10 a month option that gives drivers 1GB of extra data a month to be used in the car, or they can add unlimited in-car data for an additional $40 a month to power all the needs for internet that they may have from navigation to streaming music.
In addition to this, AT&T notes that the option is still available for customers to add the connected car data plans to their Mobile Share Value plan or it can be set up as a stand-alone, whichever they prefer. With these new plan options, AT&T is hoping to connect even more vehicles to expand its already growing number of cars on the road which are subscribed to its monthly connected car plans, having added more than 8 million connected cars on their network as of the end of the first quarter this year and having connected more than half of all the connected cars that are up and running in the U.S.
Alongside the new connected car options that AT&T is rolling out this week, they’ve put out a new ad campaign that highlights the benefits of the connected car and targets the group that likely enjoy WiFi in the car the most – kids. The ad, which you can see in the video below, touts the wonders of WiFi in the car and is told from a kids point of view, a smart move by AT&T as parents often love to make their kids happy. The ad is short and sweet and peppered with a little bit of humor, each kid having their own things to say about being able to use internet during the drive, such as “I’m kind of glad we’re not there yet.” AT&T doesn’t mention when the new connected car options will be available specifically, but they do state this week and the announcement is from yesterday, and it’s Friday so the plans are likely already available.
