Owners of August’s Doorbell Cam and the Nest Cam can rejoice. The San Francisco-based tech company has added Nest support to its smart doorbell cam which means that you can now check out video feeds from both devices in a single app – the August one. As its name suggests, the August Doorbell Cam is designed to record the happenings outside of your front door, while the Nest Cam is meant for an indoor environment. With this newly added support for Nest Cam, August Home hopes “to bridge the gap between activity happening inside and outside the home” and make you rest easy knowing that you have a full overview of your residence’s main point of entry. At least, that’s what the CEO of August Home Inc., Jason Johnson said while announcing said Nest support for the company’s cam app.
Interestingly enough, Johnson also revealed that this is just the beginning and August is planning on adding support for other cam brands as well. While it wasn’t specifically stated, it’s to be presumed the California-based company is looking to turn its app into a sort of cam hub for all smart webcams located around one’s home. August Home’s CEO wasn’t keen on revealing any new potential partners, though it’s to be presumed the consumer electronics manufacturer is at the very least talking with everyone it can as there’s no huge downside to making its app compatible with as many other cams as possible. Johnson also hinted that August may also be expanding to other products in the future as he stated that the company is going to continue cooperating with “leading smart home innovators” in order to do its part in making smart homes be a part of our future.
The update to the August Home app which adds Nest support to it should already be available for download on the Play Store, so do check for updates when you get a chance to do so. If you feel smart cams are still out of your price range, you may want to check out some projects such as Olmose which are looking to turn old and otherwise useless smartphones into parts of a larger home security system.
