Whether or not you’re familiar with AutoNotification, you may have heard of Tasker, a handy little app that seeks to help you automate nearly anything you can do on your smartphone. The same developer behind Tasker, Joaomgcd, is the developer for apps like AutoNotification and AutoInput, both of which he has just started updating to support the new APIs that were announced and launched as part of the third Android N developer Preview. If you’re running the Android N preview 3 already, you can now head over to Joao’s website and pick up the latest version both apps and eventually, when the Play Store supports N-Level API publishing, you’ll be able to get them off of Google Play as well.
As for what the update introduces, with AutoNotification there will be new sets of customizable quick settings tiles that you can customize using Tasker. Joao states that there is up to five tiles that you can customize, and there are four different features of the quick settings tile that you can customize which includes the icon, the label, the status (active, and inactive), and the AutoApps command. Alongside this, Joao explains that you can create ay kind of custom tile you desire, and uses examples like for flipping light switches or toggling a set-top box, which is demonstrated in the video down below. It’s also now possible to reply to something from the notification, and you can now group up notifications which is demonstrated in the second video below.
When it comes to AutoInput, Android N’s new APIs enable a lot more control over touchscreen simulation elements like pinching, swiping, and rotations, which Joao admits was not really working correctly prior to this update. Android N fixes those issues. As part of this, there is new gesture input that can recognize anything that you could do with ten fingers. If you want to see the AutoInput changes in action, the third video below showcases these things. As stated, you can pick up the apps from Joao’s website, although he does caution that they may not work on anything below Android N, and that they could be broken on N too.
