Video Shows How the Jason Statham LG G5 Ad was Shot

Let’s face it, LG isn’t the marketing juggernaut that Samsung is. However the company has gotten significantly better in recent years, which has undoubtedly helped them move more smartphones and tablets. To promote their most recent flagship smartphone, the LG G5, the South Korean manufacturer enlisted Jason Statham. Now we have seen companies use celebrities before, like HTC with Robert Downey Jr., but they haven’t always worked out that well (when was the last time you say Robert Downey Jr. in a HTC commercial?). Statham played a rather interesting role in these commercials. You see, he was every character in the commercial, even the people in the background. Okay not really, as they used masks for about 120 people. They explained that many of those in the background were wearing these masks and with the fast paced commercial, it was tough to tell that it wasn’t actually Jason Statham. However, Statham was the majority of the characters though, which left LG with needing to shoot just about every part of the commercial multiple times.

LG says that since they debuted this commercial, less than two months ago, it has garnered over 36 million views across their social media platforms. It’s arguably one of the most interesting commercials we’ve seen for a smartphone in quite some time. The company says the whole premise behind the ad was to “play more”, seeing as the LG G5 was all about “playing more with friends” it makes a whole lot of sense.

If you haven’t already, you can watch the full-length ad that LG did with Jason Statham, down below. We also have their short 2-minute long behind the scenes of this commercial where they speak with some of those involved in shooting the commercial. It’s unclear how well this commercial has helped LG sell the LG G5, given that the device didn’t actually go on sale until Q2, and that quarter isn’t yet over, we don’t have any sale numbers just yet. We’ll likely get those over the summer. The LG G5 was one of the first modular smartphones, and LG calls the modules and other accessories “Friends”.
