Finland Becomes Key European Market for China's Huawei

A lot of the big names in the smartphone world come from Asia, such as South Korea’s LG and Samsung and Taiwan’s HTC. For China however, there are many, many names that are fighting for a piece of the Chinese pie but also the rest of the world as well. One name that seems have done the latter better than anyone else is of course, Huawei, who has become a big name in parts of Europe and South America and is trying to edge their way into the United States as well. With high-profile releases such as the P9 and their Honor brand offering users a great balance between cost as well as performance, it’s no surprise they’re doing well. One market more than any other however, has given Huawei a jump over Apple; Finland.

During a Huawei event held in Helsinki last week, Huawei Finland’s Mika Engblom told attendees that the company had sold 10 times the amount of devices that Apple had during Q1 2016. This gave Huawei a sizeable 23% of the Finnish market during Q1 of this year, which is impressive to say the least, as that gives one company almost a quarter of the overall market. One of the reasons that Huawei seems to gained so much market share is that tablets have taken off in the country, with the Chinese firm selling 30,000 tablets in the region, outpacing both Apple and Samsung in the same time frame. Of course, for most mobile companies, the smartphone is still the biggest draw for Huawei, and their most popular devices appear to be the Honor 5C, the Honor Holly Plus, the P9 Plus, the Y3 II and the Y6 Plus. It’s interesting to see the P9 Plus as one of the best-selling devices as it hasn’t been available for long and is quite a bit more expensive than other names mentioned here.

For Huawei to have found a foothold in such a market within Europe is a big deal, and it’s something the firm will no doubt be wanting to continue throughout the rest of the continent, and there’s a real chance that they’re able to do it, too. With upcoming devices and their marketing campaign for the Leica-branded P9 and P9 Plus, Huawei could be set to make big strides throughout Europe during the rest of 2016.
