Google Utilizes In-App Changelog For Analytics Update

App updates are great for many different reasons. They often include new features, new changes to the user interface that make for an exciting new visual appeal, and sometimes they simply include just a bunch of bug fixes and improvements that work under the hood and may not necessarily be exciting, but they are necessary. The trouble sometimes is that users are challenged to find out what those changes to the application are following the update process, and this can be difficult as most app updates, Google’s apps included, don’t list a full changelog of what has changed within the app or in the Play Store immediately, leaving users to wait on the Play Store listing to detail the changes.

With Google’s most recent update to the Google Analytics app on Android, they appear to be perhaps testing a new way to detail the changelog, as the Analytics app now prompts the user to optionally check out what has changed inside of the app with the new version. Following the most recent update to Google Analytics which should bring users of the app forward to version 3.0.1, a little window will pop up inside of the app that allows users to tap on a button that says “what’s new” or tap the button next to it that says “got it.”

Hitting what’s new will bring up a full changelog that details all of the changes within the app post update, which could be much simpler for many users than waiting on the play Store listing alteration that details the most recent changes to the app. These changes can also be key highlights and not a full changelog, which doesn’t seem to be the case with the changelog that’s showing up inside of the Google Analytics app update. While this could be the only application that Google has implemented this new method in at the moment, they could begin to use this with all of their applications in the future, and it’s possible that we could end up seeing this from other app updates as well, which is the more important part of this information, as it wouldn’t be impossible for Google to make this a new standard for app developers when pushing app updates.
