For a couple of years now, HTC has launched a proprietary case alongside their flagship smartphone (formerly the HTC One M series), which was known as the Dot View case. It was known as the “Dot View” case because the it was a flip case and the front was full of dots that allowed you to see various information on the screen of the device. It was a rather interesting concept, and one that wasn’t hugely popular, but also not something that totally bombed. With the HTC 10 this year, they renamed the case to the Ice View case, and you can see more information on the display with this updated case. Now HTC has released the companion app for the case, which you can use to control what shows on the display.
HTC is allowing users to view the time, date, weather and battery level. All things that most people will want to check out, for sure. And it’s especially nice to be able to do that without needing to turn on the display and possibly open an app. But there’s more, you can dismiss alarms, view your notifications and even answer calls. HTC has a nice cut out on the front for the earpiece so there’s no problem with people hearing you on the phone. Finally, HTC has added a two-finger gesture that can be used to open the camera app with the case on the HTC 10. So you can quickly take a picture without flipping open the case and then doing so. Making things much easier all around.
This case may not be anything all that special, considering other manufacturers do similar things with their own window cases, but you can’t deny that this Ice View case looks much nicer than those window cases that LG and Samsung offer with their flagships. As you’d expect, this only works with the HTC 10, and it is useless without the HTC Ice View case, which is going to set you back $50. You can download the HTC Ice View app from the Google Play Store, it is free, you’ll just need the aforementioned Ice View Case.
