While Motorola has already unveiled their all new Moto G4 series of devices, solidifying them as the fourth generation of the Moto G series, they have yet to unveil any confirmed details or officially announce other flagships like the new Moto X. While there have been a few leaks here and there which were presumed to be the Moto X, nothing could be confirmed other than the fact that the most recent leaks simply look like a new phone from Motorola. An image popped up from back in the beginning of May that shows off a device which undoubtedly resembles a new Motorola phone that could be the Moto X, but today a new leaked image coming from Evan Blass on Twitter shows of what appears to be a device that looks exactly the same as the one leaked earlier this month, although instead of Moto etched on the camera sensor glass it says “DROID.”
This would suggest one of two things. Either the device that was leaked earlier this month is actually the new DROID, headed for Verizon as an exclusive, or that Motorola has designed a new DROID and the new Moto X to look exactly the same. Both solutions could be possible as the DROID Turbo 2 doesn’t look too much different from the Moto X that launched last year, but there were enough differences to tell the two phones apart. It’s also worth considering that another leak suggesting Lenovo would go the modular route with the new Moto X shows off a couple of leaked renders which look exactly like this device but with the Moto branding on the back instead.
Judging by the image from today and the image from earlier this month, the potential Moto X4 and this potential new DROID device are designed with an identical outer body, save for the branding that sits atop the camera sensor glass. What also looks like may have been speaker holes from the previous image, look awfully similar to pogo pin connectors for charging here in the image for the DROID phone, so, make of that what you will. The phones also appear more glossy, so it’s possible that the new DROID may have a glass back, or it could just be the way the image looks since it’s clearly a render and not a live image shot of the device in the wild. If this is a new DROID device, it would also appear to be launching in three colors of Black, Silver, and Gold.
