Motorola had announced the May 17th press conference in India a while back. Pretty much everyone assumed that the company plans to unveil the next-gen Moto G devices, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus which have been leaking out for weeks now. Well, that day has come, and the company has finally unveiled their new budget offerings. That being said, the two devices are actually called the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, which means that the company is ditching their previous naming scheme. Anyhow, let’s take a closer look at the two devices, shall we.
The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are actually quite similar, the two devices look basically identical on the outside. These smartphones seem to be made out of polycarbonate with some metal accents, and they both sport a fingerprint scanner below the display. This fingerprint scanner is quite small, though it’s very fast, at least according to the company. The two devices do sport a somewhat different spec sheet, however. Both devices sport a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it, and both are fueled by the Snapdragon 617 64-bit octa-core processor. The Moto G4 features a 13-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture) on the back, while the Moto G4 Plus comes with a 16-megapixel PDAF camera (f/2.0 aperture, OmniVision’s sensor), while the Laser Autofocus is also a part of this package. The 5-megapixel snapper with an 84-degree wide-angle lens is located on the front side of both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.
The Moto G4 packs in 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while the Moto G4 Plus comes in both 2GB (+16GB of internal storage) and 3GB RAM (+32GB of native storage) variants. The internal storage can be expanded in both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, you can insert a microSD card of up to 128GB. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus will ship with a 3,000mAh battery which supports Turbo Charging, which means you’ll get six hours of usage after just 15 minutes of charging, according to the company. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on both devices, and you’ll find some Moto apps installed on top of Google’s OS. It is also worth mentioning that both of these phones sport two SIM card slots and 4G LTE connectivity. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are 7.9mm thick, and will be available in India exclusively through Amazon India, pricing and availability information will be announced soon. The two phones will also be available in the UK starting from June, you’ll be able to purchase them through Tesco Mobile, Argos and Amazon for £169 and £199, respectively. The Moto G4 will be available from early June, while the Moto G4 Plus will follow in mid-June, at least as far as the UK is concerned.
