Motorola’s next-generation Moto G has been in the news in recent times, with the Lenovo-owned company expected to officially unveil the 2016 edition of its mid-range handset at some stage in the coming weeks. While Motorola is yet to announce anything officially about the upcoming device, the company has announced a press event to be held in the Indian capital of New Delhi on May 17th. The company hasn’t divulged anything in particular, but sections of the tech media in the country seem to believe that the company will officially announce the Moto G (2016) on that day. While we’re still two weeks away from that date, Motorola’s India Twitter account has now started teasing a new smartphone that it says will help users to “Stop #missing on milestones with a better camera”.
However, even as the company emphasizes on the imaging credentials of its upcoming device, it’s not just the camera either that is being teased here by Moto India. The company has been tweeting out a series of messages over the past few of days with the #missing hashtag, with some of the tweets clearly hinting at better battery, camera and privacy with the upcoming device. While there’s no guarantee that Motorola is indeed teasing the Moto G (2016) with its latest series of tweets, it would be fairly surprising if the teasers turned out to be about any other device what with various reports in recent times indicating that the company’s next-gen Moto G is close to hitting primetime.
While not everything is known about the upcoming next-gen Moto G, some leaks over the past few weeks have indicated that Lenovo may release not one but two Moto G variants this year with different screen sizes. While the original Moto G was a smash hit for the company a couple of years back, subsequent releases in 2014 and 2015 were not quite able to recreate the kind of magic that the original device had created. With its latest release this year, Motorola will be hoping that it can gain back some of the mid-range market share that it has lost over the past couple of years to companies like ASUS and Xiaomi in India.
