Newest S Health Update Brings Social & Competitive Features

Samsung’s S Health App, bringing health features like goal setting, workout tracking and over-time charts to the favorite smartphones and wearables of over 150 million users, has been updated with a few new features. While the app, now up to version 4.8.0.0085 with this new update, has always been about reaching and beating your personal best and ensuring you stay in or exceed your averages, new features will allow you to view the averages in your age group and your circle of friends, provided they use the app. You can compare yourself to others in things like step count, heart rate and many other data sets.

The update to S Health also brings new ways to compile and interact with personal data. Step count, for example, can be combined and synced between all compatible devices and apps. Certain reports and data can also be exported and shared in new ways. Blood glucose, heart rate and blood pressure reports can be compiled and exported into PDF, XLS and HTML files for easy sharing, reformatting and integration. This makes it much easier to compile a personal file to keep track of such data over time, or share that same data with friends, trainers and healthcare providers. Another new feature, called Quick Measure, lets users put their finger on the sensor and turn the device over to quickly get a fix on their heart rate from anywhere in the app. Rounding out the list of new features, blood glucose monitoring data can now be synced with Bluetooth-enabled meters, saving the user the trouble of inputting the data by hand.

As with any other update, bug fixes and under the hood performance and compatibility enhancements are packed in along with all of the nifty new features. The update is still in the process of rolling out in both the Play Store and the Galaxy Apps store. If you don’t see the newest version of the app in your app outlet of choice, a reboot or closing the task and reopening the app may not do the trick – you might have to wait for the rollout to reach your neck of the woods.
