When it comes to ordering food, it’s typically the larger chains that allow you to order online, without having to call in your order. Places like Dominos, Papa John’s, BD’s Mongolian BBQ, just to name a few. However, there are apps that make it possible for restaurants to offer online ordering without needing to build it into their site, and paying extra for that capability. ExtraPlate is one of those apps. It’s a fairly new app and is only available in a few cities right now. These include Los Angeles and Greater Sacramento, CA; Portland, OR; Denver, CO; and Nashville, TN.
ExtraPlate allows you to order food on-demand with your phone. Without needing to find a computer or even opening the browser. You can pay through the app, and ExtraPlate will email you the receipt after you get your food. There is a delivery option, which will depend on the restaurant you choose to order food from. ExtraPlate is also a great way to discover new restaurants in your community that you may not have known existed. And by doing so, you’ll directly be supporting local businesses which is always good for the economy.
Within the app, ExtraPlate will also show you the estimated time for pick-up versus delivery. So you can decide on which restaurant and how you want to get your food much easier. Especially if you’re starving and need food as soon as possible. The delivery fee is $5.00 with ExtraPlate, which is a bit more than what you would pay to some of the bigger chains, like the ones mentioned earlier. Additionally, you can tip within the app. There’s a neat slider that shows how much a 10% tip would be, versus 15%, and higher. Making it easy to give them an adequate tip, without under or over tipping the delivery driver.
ExtraPlate is available now on the Google Play Store. It is a free app, without any in-app purchases. However, as mentioned earlier, it is limited to just a handful of cities here in the US. So if you’re not in any of those cities, you may not have much luck with this service right now. But they should be expanding in the near future.
