The highly-anticipated OnePlus 3 should be officially unveiled in the following weeks, or by June assuming that the company’s initial release timeframe proposed in February 2016 is still valid. Until then, the OnePlus 3 is bound to continue and reach the headlines for several reasons, some official, and others, perhaps not so much. But as far as official details are concerned, OnePlus co-founder and CEO, Pete Lau, continues to tease the OnePlus 3’s eventual release with small pieces of the puzzle. Not long ago, Pete Lau shared what seemed to be the very first camera sample captured with the OnePlus 3, and more recently, the CEO teased the smartphone’s front-facing camera capabilities through a selfie shared with the Internet.
The OnePlus 3 is already a fairly popular smartphone, largely thanks to the successful predecessors that have contributed to a market shift towards budget-friendlier flagship phones. While the terminal is not yet official, the OnePlus 3 is believed to be equipped with an AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4 or 6 GB of RAM, 32 / 64 GB of internal storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery to keep all the components up and running, hopefully for a fair amount of time. The same flagship phone is also said to accommodate a generous 8-megapixel front-facing camera, which should be enough to satisfy the needs of any selfie enthusiast, at least on paper. It remains to be seen how the smartphone will handle photography in practice, but for now, Carl Pei stirred the interest of OnePlus fans by sharing a selfie photo captured with none other than the OnePlus 3. Reportedly, the original image has a resolution of 2448 x 3264, and by the looks of it, it may have been subjected to “beautify” filters built into the camera application.
Otherwise, no new details have been revealed, but we can expect Carl Pei and OnePlus to continue and tease the smartphone’s various features by the time it officially launches. It’s also exciting to consider the possibility that unlike the previous two flagship phones, the OnePlus 3 might see a more open release unhindered by an invite-only policy. However at the moment, these are only speculations originating from the rumor mill in China, so whether or not OnePlus will be ready to switch to a more retail-like sales philosophy remains to be seen.
