Samsung may be the one selling curved display smartphones right now. But they aren’t the only manufacturer making curved displays. LG has been working on them for a few years as well. In fact, they have used a curved display in smartphones like the LG G Flex, although not as curved as what we have on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, it is still a curved display but, it’s better known as a flexible display. There have been reports lately that Xiaomi may be working on a curved display smartphone – they aren’t the only Chinese OEM in that rumor either, as Meizu has also been rumored to be making one similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge. According to the latest reports, it seems that LG will be supplying Xiaomi with curved displays this time around.
LG hasn’t been mass producing curved displays, at least not double edge curved panels, lately. And that’s likely the reason that this smartphone from Xiaomi has been delayed until Spring 2017. Of course, that is also a report and not confirmed, so we’ll need to take that with a grain of salt. This upcoming Xiaomi smartphone is said to be sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor along with 6GB of RAM. There’s also been talk about dual cameras coming to this smartphone from Xiaomi. It’s important to note that the Snapdragon 823 hasn’t been formally announced yet. This just shows how long it could be before we see this smartphone announced.
Huawei is also said to be working on a dual edge curved smartphone too. Although reports point toward Huawei sourcing their panels from Samsung. Who is the leader in curved displays right now. However, with LG hot on their tail, that may change in the near future.
It’s worth noting that LG has yet to use a double edge curved display on any of their smartphones. This makes it interesting that Xiaomi would be using their panels, seeing as LG would want to use that technology in their own smartphone before offering it to the competition to use in their products. Perhaps LG’s new flagship that will succeed the LG V10, will have a dual edge curved display.
