There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Motorola’s rumored flagship device for the year that’s being referred to as the Moto X4, or as most people would be familiar with it, the 4th generation of the Moto X if that ends up being the name. Earlier this morning a rumor surfaced that is suggesting that Motorola and Lenovo may be looking to make the Moto X4 modular, with modules called “amps” that could be hooked into the back of the device under the backplate. The latest bit of detail about the upcoming flagship Motorola device states that Motorola will be using an AMOLED panel for the display, and that the screen will be using the ShatterShield technology on it that was officially unveiled for the first time last Fall for the launch of the new Droid Turbo 2 phone that is exclusive to Verizon Wireless.
If this proves to be true, this will be the second phone from Motorola to use the ShatterShield technology which aims to deliver more protection from drops, dings, and other damage. Although there is no confirmation from Motorola that ShatterShield will be used in the upcoming flagship device, the front panel that’s now rumored to be AMOLED and ShatterShield has a strong resemblance to the leaked images of the front of the device that have shown up in the past, complete with the “moto” branding and a physical home button at the bottom that would house the fingerprint reader.
In regards to previous leaks about the upcoming Moto X4, recent news from this morning also suggests that one of the first leaked images claiming to be a live image of the device’s final design is now what the consumer model will look like when it is ready to launch later this year. Although ShatterShield on the new Motorola flagship is still just a rumor, Motorola did officially state towards the end of last year that they would consider using ShatterShield displays on future products, so it’s entirely in the realm of possibility that they could be using one for the new Moto X device, and seeing as it’s their flagship smartphone, it seems like the perfect candidate to receive the treatment.
