The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have been on the market for some time, and have recently helped Samsung deliver some of their better Q1 results in some time. By now, we all know how Samsung approach the year in terms of big smartphone releases; they start off the year with a new Galaxy S line and end the year with a new Galaxy Note device. This has been the status quo for Samsung’s launches for years now, and there’s little to suggest the South Korean firm is to change tactics for 2016. More details and rumors about the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 are starting to surface, and this latest suggests a change that will bring Samsung in line with other big name Android manufacturers.
Reports have surfaced that the Galaxy Note 6 is going to feature a USB Type-C port, despite the fact that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were launched with a MicroUSB port. There are a number of reasons why Samsung might launch the Galaxy Note 6 with a Type-C USB port, chief among them being the fact that this is a USB 3.0 connector, and will give Galaxy Note 6 users quicker transfers from their PC or Laptops, and the fact that it can easily transmit HDMI signals with little to no fuss. These are features that the Galaxy Note, a device known for being able to open a lot of doors for users will no doubt benefit from. Of course, with every for column there’s an against column and for Samsung there are a lot of things to consider.
Considering that Samsung’s main target audience has often been the average user, their target audience will no doubt be more than happy to keep a hold of all those MicroUSB cables that they’ve stocked up over the years in their cars, lockers, desks, friends’ houses and so on. Then there’s also Gear VR to consider as well, which only works with a MicroUSB port at the moment. Should Samsung go with a Type-C connector, they would no doubt need to release another version of the Gear VR, which could upset users upgrading from a Galaxy Note 5 needing to buy another VR headset. Of course, this is just a rumor, and there’s a long way to go before we know for sure what Samsung’s Galaxy Note 6 will bring to the table.
