Samsung Transforms A Russian Billboard Into A Galaxy S7 Edge

Samsung is no stranger to slick marketing tactics, and for its latest accomplishment in this particular area, Samsung has turned a giant video billboard in Moscow, Russia, into a massive Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone. Since this is just a billboard the device is obviously not interactive in any way, but it does go through playing a series of different clips that show off the device and tout some of its different features. It does look just a Galaxy S7 Edge though, which is the point in the first place.

Samsung mentions that this is their largest signage for the Galaxy S7 Edge in all of Europe which is an impressive task. The exact location of the billboard is in Sokol, Moscow, and stands a massive 80 meters high and 40 meters wide, and is essentially one giant LED display. The sign is so big, that Samsung states it can be seen from as far as 2.2 kilometers away, from the Gidroproekt building which is about that distance. It also sits on the edge of a main road that connects downtown Moscow to the airport, allowing it to be seen by roughly 800,000 people every single day.

While this is certainly a unique way to advertise their new smartphone, Samsung hasn’t quite resorted to such tactics here in the U.S., although giant video billboards that advertise all kinds of things are fairly common in Manhattan around the area of Times Square. The giant display can be seen during any part of the day really, but it can appear most impressive at night as it shines bright and luminous. Even the Samsung logo itself can be seen easily in the dark as it too lights up so people are still able to tell that the billboard is more than just a billboard, and that it’s shaped like a giant phone. The reasoning for such marketing should be obvious as Samsung wants to drum up more business and sales for the device in the region most likely, but what will be interesting is to see how or if this new advertising might increase sales in the country following its construction and placement.
