As you all know, Samsung tends to release quite a few smartphones every year, but this Korea-based tech giant also releases tablets, smartwatches, fitness trackers, etc. Samsung actually releases quite a few tablets every year as well, more than pretty much every other high profile tech company out there. Well, the company has just introduced yet another tablet, and this device is made for the Indian smartphone market, read on.
The Galaxy Tab Iris is Samsung’s latest creation. This tablet is Aadhaar-compliant and STQC-certified under the ‘Make for India’ initiative. This tablet is meant to be used by banks, enterprises, financial and educational institutions, etc. The Aadhaar Iris scanner is built into the Galaxy Tab Iris, as its name states. “This alignment will provide a more secure authentication and verification process and help the country transition away from traditional authentication processes,” said Samsung, and also added that the tablet is UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) compliant, and can be used in a special child enrolment program where parents are used to authenticate children for Aadhaar enrolment. Some of you might wonder what Aadhaar is, well, it is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by UIDAI, and it basically serves as a person’s identity and address. “This is another example of Samsung’s pursuit for meaningful innovations. We see great potential for the iris- technology solution to be used as a means of directly facilitating greater inclusion in the Digital India programme,” said Sukesh Jain, Vice President of Samsung India Electronics. Samsung obviously wants to test out Iris identification capabilities before they widen its reach, and the Galaxy Tab Iris seems to be a perfect way to do that.
The Galaxy Tab Iris sports a 7-inch WSVGA (1024 x 600) display, 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage. The device is fueled by a quad-core processor running at 1.2GHz, while a 3,600mAh battery is also a part of this package. The 5-megapixel camera is placed on the back of this tablet, and Android 5.0 Lollipop comes pre-installed on the device with Samsung’s custom skin on top of it. This tablet comes with the SIM card slot, and offers 3G connectivity. The device comes in Black color variant only, and it costs Rs. 13,499 ($200) in India.
