Among the handful of different options out there for streaming music services, Slacker Radio is one that has been around longer than most, and today has just announced an update to their mobile app which enhances their standing by starting to offer original content to users. With Slacker’s new and original content added to the app, users have the choice to not only listen to music and stream their favorite hits but also check out the collection of shows that Slacker says are “built on interactive storytelling” featuring both top artists and original show hosts to drive the content in a specific direction.
Following this update, users will have access to a varied selection of original content that Slacker states will continue to grow as time goes on, boasting 12 original shows, but for now, Slacker is kicking things off with 7 original shows as part of their “initial wave.” While that may not seem like much to some, between all of the original shows that are on offer there is already over 250 interactive episodes to experience. The original content will feature themed radio stations which will still offer up streaming music, but will also have commentary and background information about the songs and what’s currently playing. There will also be artist-curated shows like “Goes To 11,” which features a collection of different artists that talk about their inspiration behind music and discuss things like their favorite songs, music types, and artists.
There will also be a show called “The Count-Up” that feels more like a streaming radio station and currently has over 100 episodes, where Slacker has used the listening patterns of users to compile the collection of songs from major artists. The other shows which are included at the launch of this new feature will be “Ranked,” a show about lists that follow different topics like Top 55 most controversial songs of all time, “Artist DNA” that mixes together music and artist commentary, “The Twenty” which plays 20 songs that all follow a single theme, “Throwback Thirty” which is a countdown of the top 30 songs on Slacker from five years ago, and “I Am The DJ” which has artists curating their own stations complete with streaming music, stories and more. The app update should already be live with the new content available.
