FameStand is an Android app that hopes to offer budding stars a better path to get noticed online. FameStand is all about letting amateur talent, and only amateur talent, be found online without having to fight with other commercial properties or big corporations. Users can submit content from all sorts of different fields such as modelling, music, dance and yes, even vlogs as well. The whole idea behind the app is to create a network of talent that is purely independent and amateur, and it’s totally free to download and use as well, which is certainly a help for the app’s target audience.
A free download from the Play Store, users can get started with FameStand as soon as they open up the app, but they will need to either sign in or register for an account.
New users that want to get started with the app will need to sign up for an account, but the app doesn’t ask for too much information, and it doesn’t even ask for email verification.
Once users have everything set up, they can go ahead and start exploring the sort of content that’s already available on FameStand. While the app might only have 500 or so downloads right now, there does seem to be a good amount of content available on the app.
In each of the categories you’ll find a mix of different work as well as different artists of course, and it’s simple to interactive with these users as well.
Users can choose from one of the many options onscreen to either like or send a comment for a certain piece of work that they’ve found in FameStand and these comments will be displayed for all others to see.
For me, I prefer to look at works of art such as photography and paintings, but there’s a lot more to FameStand than just that – as the above image of categories just goes to show – and there’s some great musical talent available on the network as well.
These musical options range from classical covers to more contemporary sort of stuff and everything else.
Creating something and posting to FameStand is nice and easy, and the only real question is just what will you have to offer people? To upload your own work, you just need to do so from the same main menu, and you can upload either images or video.
As far as video is concerned, users can even choose to link and input their video from elsewhere on the web, such as YouTube or other online services.
FameStand is an app that has a great concept at its heart, but it’s in its very, very early stages right now. It’s interesting to take a look at apps like these and see what they have to offer, but to think they’re going to be the next YouTube is a little naive. That’s perhaps the point however, that FameStand doesn’t want to become something that massive, and is instead happy to carve out its own little niche and create something that a small yet focused community of content creators will feel happy in. Not too mention that this is an app that has only just launched, and can only get better with more and more users as well as their content as well. The app itself runs nice and smoothly and is perfectly easy to use and content creators from all sorts of backgrounds will be able to get to grips with the app nice and quickly. Everything is laid out well and all of the controls and such are easy to find as well.
Ratings
- Speed (4/5) – FameStand runs well, and it doesn’t take long at all to load or upload your own content to.
- Theme (4/5) – While not the best-looking app out there, it does look okay and it’s nice and easy to use as well.
- Features (4/5) – The app itself is easy to use and everything is neatly organized, it’s easy to connect with other content creators as well as discover something genuinely new from other amateurs.
- Overall (4/5) – FameStand is an app that has a great concept going for it, but with not a huge amount of content on offer, the app will struggle until it gets a big shot in the arm in terms of content, but it will come.
Pros
- Great idea to give those with content to offer the world a place to be heard above all of the larger names and such out there, without having to compete with these mega-stars and corporations.
- All content is neatly separated from each other, and it’s easily-navigated as well.
- Allows users to upload or link their videos from all sorts of different sources no matter where they might be.
- Nice and easy to comment and like other people’s work, going towards creating a sort of network of common interests and budding artists.
Cons
- Needs more users and content to attract more people to look and ultimately share their own work.
- App feels a little basic, even if it does get the job done.
All-in-all, FameStand is an app that is going to give a lot of people something to like as well as give them an opportunity to share their own creation and hopefully get noticed. The fact that this allows people to work without having to compete against huge names on the likes of YouTube and such will be music to their ears, but it’s currently lacking in membership figures and such, which will get better of course, but right now it feels just a little limited. We guess it’s up to you to help join the network and help it grow!
