Verizon is not always the fastest when it comes to pushing out software updates, which may not be much of a problem for those who opt to go with phones that are available on other networks. For those who may have chosen to switch to Verizon Wireless and pick up a Verizon exclusive, though, like the Droid Maxx 2, software updates may come a little slower. Luckily for Droid Maxx 2 owners, today Verizon has started pushing out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software updates to devices, so users may notice the update notification show up in their status bar at some point today. Verizon also started pushing the Marshmallow update to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge at the beginning of last month, and the Droid Turbo 2 finally started getting Marshmallow at the end of last month.
If you haven’t yet seen the update show up on your device, you can always try to pull the software update down from the network manually, which isn’t hard to do at all if you’ve never attempted to do so. All you have to do is simply navigate to the settings menu on your phone, scroll down to about phone, and then tap on the software updates button which will immediately start a scan to see if the update is available for your device. Keep in mind that this won’t necessarily guarantee the update will show up for you, and you may still have to end up waiting for it to come through over-the-air anyway.
If that’s the case, the update shouldn’t take too long to reach all users on the network and would likely hit all Droid Maxx 2 devices, or the majority of them at least, within the next few days. As this is Marshmallow coming through, Droid Maxx 2 users can expect a handful of changes that include Google’s Now On Tap feature, Direct Share, Doze Mode and app standby for improvements to battery life, more granular permissions control, App links, Do Not Disturb Mode, and the most up to date security patches for the device that have recently gone out as well. Verizon doesn’t list how big the update download will be, but most updates from Lollipop to Marshmallow have been decent in size, so being connected to WiFi and having a full battery is recommended.
