Twitter is a self-curated service, like most social networks. You only get new posts from accounts that you choose to follow. While you may follow friends and family, celebrities you’re a fan of and companies you buy from, you could easily end up at a loss for new accounts to follow. As well as making your Twitter feed more varied, any good social media guru will tell you that the best way to get more followers on Twitter is to follow people. At one point, the Twitter app had a feature called Connect that was supposed to help you with that conundrum somewhat, but instead wound up as a notification area and was eventually renamed as such. Twitter announced on Tuesday that the feature is coming back and will be revamped.
The new Connect feature comes in the form of a unified tab, in the same Material Design style as the rest of the app on iOS and Android. For the web version, interestingly, Twitter has left the Connect tab out of the equation. The new tab can be accessed by clicking on the add friends icon in the top left, the silhouette with a plus sign next to it, then clicking on “Find Friends” in the new page that pops up. The Connect tab will show you a list of accounts that Twitter thinks that you may benefit from following based on a number of factors like local events, your own Tweets, Tweets you’ve liked and who you follow.
The newest incarnation of the Connect tab, much more befitting of its name this time around, is already rolling out to iOS and Android users, so if you can’t see it quite yet, try updating your app. As with any other update rollout, if you can’t see it in the Play Store or App Store, rebooting your device will likely do the trick. As mentioned above, you won’t be seeing the tab on the web version of Twitter, meaning that you’ll have to spend some time on the mobile version to get hints from Twitter on who to follow in one place.
