You thought selfie sticks were just a fad? That they’ll go away once people get tired of carrying them around? Think again, because these little phone accessories are getting automated. Well, one of them is. Revealed earlier this week, “Unreal” is the world’s first automated selfie stick which promises to make your self-portrait-taking activities easier and more convenient than ever. It’s basically a regular telescopic selfie stick, except that it’s extended and retracted with a simple push of a button. Oh, and it also has a pretty cool gimmick in the form of two fans which also come out of the accessory’s handle and can be used for taking those dramatic windy self-portraits when there isn’t any wind around to blow your hair in a fashionable manner. Automatically extending selfie stick with wind turbines isn’t enough? Well then, Unreal also aims to impress you with its LED soft light panels built into the phone mount of the device. They are also activated with a simple push of a button and should be able to provide enough fill light for your selfies to really shine. Have selfies gone too far? Probably, but few can claim that this isn’t a super cool gadget.
This futuristic device was created by creative minds at Thinkmodo and unfortunately isn’t going to be hitting the market anytime soon. That’s because it was made for the purposes of an online promo campaign for the upcoming second season of the dark comedy/drama TV series UnREAL which is premiering on Lifetime on June 6th. On a brighter note, you can at least see this selfie stick in action in the video below.
Also, maybe the fact that Unreal isn’t actually hitting the market isn’t so bad after all as it was recently shown that even regular selfie sticks can be potentially fatal. So, the idea of having potentially tens of thousands of automated, double fan-wielding telescopic monstrosities with huge LED lights out in the wild wreaking havoc suddenly sounds a lot less appealing. Doesn’t mean it still doesn’t look cool when used in a safe manner, though, as demonstrated by the UnREAL promo video embedded herein.
