Google I/O had some interesting announcements last week, although most probably weren’t what the public at large was hoping for. It wouldn’t be too unreasonable to presume that most people often look forward to Google I/O for the promise of new hardware in the Nexus device line, but that didn’t happen this year. The things that Google did announce are still exciting, though, even if most of them won’t be available until later on this year.
So far, the one thing that Google did make available immediately was the third developer preview for Android N, which is now available for any of the Nexus devices that support the last two Android N developer previews, and the Sony Xperia Z3 which came as a little bit of a surprise to some. Beyond the third dev preview, Google also announced Google Assistant which is sort of an evolution of Google Now. Google Assistant is also being tied into two other products that Google unveiled, including their upcoming messaging app called Allo, and the highly anticipated Google Home, a smart speaker that is poised to take on Amazon’s popular Echo speaker. Google also had one more app to show off called Duo, which is a dedicated video calling application, and it’s available for pre-registration alongside Allo right at this moment in the Google Play Store. Google also showed off the Jacquard jacket that their ATAP team partnered with Levi’s to produce and is set to launch next year, and of course, ATAP’ most anticipated project, Project Ara, made an appearance at the event in the form of a developer-ready version of the handset. Of all the things that were announced at the conference last week, which has you the most excited?
