Xiaomi is holding an event later this week, where they are going to announce the Xiaomi Mi Max. They may also announce a few other devices at this event, but we do know for sure that the Mi Max will make its debut. The company has since, decided to put up three teaser videos on YouTube, ahead of the event. Although they are all in Mandarin, so it’s tough to decipher what’s actually being said in these videos. When it comes to smartphone makers in China, Xiaomi is likely the first name that pops into your head. They have been battling it out with Huawei recently, to be the biggest manufacturer in the country. They launched the Xiaomi Mi 5 back at Mobile World Congress, which has been getting some great reviews. It’s a device that has essentially all the same specs as the HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5, but at about half the price. Now the Xiaomi Mi Max is a bit different. It’s a much larger device, in fact it’ll be the largest smartphone that the company has ever built. Coming in with a 6.44-inch screen size. However, the company is dropping the QHD resolution panel that we have on the company’s Mi 5, for a lower-resolution FHD (that’s 1920×1080) panel. The reason for this is to try and cut down the cost to build the phone so they can still offer it fairly cheap. Other rumored specs include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There will also be a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage version available. The former is said to cost around $200 USD. Which is an insanely low price, especially given the display size and specs inside.
The Xiaomi Mi Max won’t just be Xiaomi’s largest smartphone to date, but one of the largest smartphones ever announced and sold. It tips the scales at the same size as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra that debuted a few years ago. It’s going to be an interesting launch for Xiaomi, seeing as those in China do like larger displays – they consume a ton of media on their smartphones, and the tablet market there is all but dead – so it should sell fairly well. Keep in mind that the Xiaomi Mi Max will likely only sell in China, and perhaps a few other Asian countries.
