With any Google I/O event comes many announcements and on just about all aspects of Android. However, it is also the place where we are sometimes made privy to do new and exciting apps, features or services that Google has in the pipeline. Much was the case today at Google I/O 2016 when Google introduced not one new app, but two. The new apps consisted of a messaging app dubbed ‘Allo’ and a video-calling app dubbed ‘Duo’.
In terms of Allo, while there are plenty of messaging apps already available, it was clear from Google’s keynote presentation that Allo is designed to be a little bit different to your average messaging app. More specifically, it is a messaging app which looks to harness the power and might of Google Search and Google’s vast knowledge bank. A combination which is designed to result in an app which not only allows you to send messages, but also engage in a greater level of conversation and even get things done. Examples of the type of additional actions you can expect from the app is the ability to book tickets, make reservations or read reviews all within the chat window and with the information accessible to everyone involved with the chat. However, the downside with the announcing of Allo is that it was just an announcement with no firm details on when the app will become available to download, besides the rather vague ‘later in the summer’ statement.
That does not mean that you cannot register your interest in Allo though, as the app has now made its way onto the Google Play Store in a sort of pre-order mode. This is an app which will be free to download when it is released, so registering your interest will simply allow you to be one of the first to get updates on the app and presumably, be one of the first to download the app when it does become available.
