Reading books on mobile devices like Amazon’s line up of Kindle E-Readers and Fire tablets is quite a snap with the Kindle Books app, and today Amazon has just announced a new feature that is going to make things a little easier if you frequently find yourself nose deep in books. The new feature, called ‘Page Flip,’ essentially allows users to flip through and explore books without having to worry about losing their place. While it’s certainly not difficult to put a bookmark on the page to make sure you can always get back to where you were, Page Flip alleviates this need as it automatically saves your place.
Amazon states that Page Flip is compatible with both the Kindle e-readers as well as their Fire tablets, but it will also be available for Android and iOS devices through the use of the Kindle Books application, making it a cross platform feature so no user is left out. If you happen to be reading and Page Flip is enabled, you can freely explore the books pictures and things like the table of contents, index and more, and should you end up leaving the page that you’re currently on, it will be pinned to the side of the screen so you can always get back to it quickly and easily.
Aside from auto saving your place on whatever page you’re reading, Page Flip also allows you to zoom out and see things from what Amazon is referring to as a “bird’s eye view” so you can scroll between pages and view them as thumbnail versions in a three by three row. You can also zoom out and see the pages in a carousel list with a scroll bar at the bottom of the screen, and flip through pages quickly that way as well. This could be extremely useful for students or anyone who is using a book to study as well as read, as they can flip back to a particular page they might need some information on and then jump right back to the page they were reading after they’re done. Page Flip is already live, and anyone using Kindle Books where the app is available should have access to it right away. It is worth noting however that the feature is being added as part of an update to the app, so it may take some time for it show up.
