Those who root their devices will know the importance of having useful tools at their disposal to hep them with things like flashing custom firmware. Normally, for the flashing process you would need a custom recovery tool flashed to the device first, but there has also been an application called FlashFire available to beta testers that allows those with rooted mobile devices to flash ROMs and other custom files without the need for a custom recovery. Up until now, FlashFire has had limited access, and you had to be a beta tester to gain the ability to install it. Today that changes, as Chainfire, the app’s developer, has just published it on the Play Store for any root user to install.
Along with hitting the Play Store for all root users, there are a handful of notable changes highlighted by Chainfire. Those on the Android N developer preview 3 can now use FlashFire without issue which is a pretty big improvement to anyone using the preview who may have been wanting to flash stuff. Chainfire notes that all issues with the Android N preview have been fixed, including the ART crash and the adb restore bug.
FlashFire also has a few other changes like forcing the “clear cache” option to show in the UI and the file sizes are now included in the cache validation. While this is now available for anyone who has a rooted device, Chainfire points out that the app should not be considered as moving out of beta. Essentially, the app should still be looked at as a beta version that is now simply available to all users, which means there is still development that will end up being done. The app should also still be considered dangerous and people should still exercise caution when using it. Since the app is still technically in beta, it’s not feature complete, meaning there will still be more features that Chainfire is likely going to add into the app in the future.
