There is little doubting the usefulness of calendar apps. Whether you use Google Calendar or a third-party calendar app, they are extremely useful tools and especially when it comes to work schedules. Having access to all your appointments, meetings, being able to merge them with your own personal commitments and having all that information readily available in your pocket when you need it, is a real benefit of calendar apps and in general, does highlight just how useful smartphones have become outside of simply making or receiving calls.
However, the downside is that a busy calendar can also be quite a messy calendar at times. It can be sometimes difficult to really navigate your way around a calendar app and especially when you are trying to make time on the fly for a new commitment or appointment. It would be highly beneficial if there was an easier way to view a possible conflict of appointments when making a new appointment and without having to trawl through your calendar first. Luckily, that exactly seems to be a new feature which is now included in the latest version of Google Calendar.
An update which is on its way to the Google Calendar app does include the ability to see potential conflicts that could arise from double bookings. The feature seems to be simply enough to you and as you can see from the image below, when you are scheduling a new appointment the updated app will now show your already listed appointments for the surrounding hours. Highlighting which ones, if any, do conflict with your new appointment time. Likewise, it also will show you when you have an available spot free so you can tweak the time of the appointment to avoid any conflicts. While this won’t necessarily be a useful feature to everyone, for those who have extremely busy calendars, it could prove the difference in ensuring you never end up double booking a time slot.
As mentioned, the updated version is due to be sent out in the coming days so you can just hold on for the OTA update to arrive. However, if you would prefer to push the latest version of the app to your device manually, then you can by downloading the APK through the link below and sideloading in the normal manner.
