When it was first launched, Inbox was thought of something as a little experiment of what Gmail would end up becoming. Well, since then it’s made a life for itself alongside Gmail, which still gives users a fairly vanilla experience compared to the simplified, and perhaps autonomous, Inbox. Taking the neat organization of things a little further for the user, Inbox has always been super-simple and easy-to-use, while also making email a little less stuffy and a little more fun. With that in mind, Google have now updated Inbox to finally include a key feature that was introduced in Android 6.0 Marshmallow; Direct Share.
Unsurprisingly, this will only really appeal to those that have been updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but Direct Share makes it super-easy to share something to your most frequently-used contacts, regardless of which app you use to communicate together. The scenario goes something like this; let’s say you want to share a picture and you hit the share button, with Direct Share, you’ll see your frequent contacts and the apps that you use to communicate most with each other. Now, in version 1.26, Inbox will deliver the same experience. The what’s new section of the app’s listing in the Play Store confirms as much by saying “direct sharing to frequent contacts – If you’re on Android Marshmallow, people you email often may appear in the Android sharing options.” This is a little cryptic on Google’s part, but considering that is what Direct Share is all about, we’re assuming this is the sort of experience that Inbox users can expect.
Inbox has been updated a number of times in recent memory, and this latest inclusion of Direct Share goes a long way to make Inbox a little more useful. One of the main reasons Inbox exists is to make email a little more informal and a little easier to keep on top of. Being able to quickly share whatever you want to an email contact super-quickly is just one more way that email becomes easier when using Inbox.
