Entry-Level LG K3 Now Available On Boost & Virgin Mobile

The LG G5 may be the current flagship smartphone LG Electronics is offering right now, but that doesn’t mean the South Korean consumer electronics company isn’t trying to expand its market share in the mid-range and entry-level segments of the market. While the company has done away with its L-series devices, in its place what we have is the all new K-series that was unveiled earlier this year by the Seoul-based multinational. The company has already announced a whole host of new devices as part of its all-new line, with the K10 at the top-end of the spectrum and the K3 representing the entry-level, with a number of other models positioned at different price-points in-between, including the LG K4 that was launched on Verizon earlier this year.

With the K-series aimed primarily at the prepaid market, it is now the turn of two prepaid carriers in the U.S. to announce the availability of the handset on their respective networks with effect from today. Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile, both owned by Sprint, have now started selling the device on their respective websites for just $79.99 with free shipping. Furthermore, Boost has also said that it will offer the handset at its retail outlets from next week. While plans start at $35 per month at Boost for 2 GB data along with unlimited talk and text, Virgin is charging $30 per month for its entry-level plan that will only get you 500 MB of high speed data. The carrier, however, is also offering 4 GB of high-speed data at just $40 per month and 6 GB at $50 per month.

As for the smartphone in question, the LG K3 is a decidedly entry-level handset as the price-tag will testify. It comes with fairly humble hardware, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 SoC, 1 GB of RAM and just the 8 GB of internal storage. Thankfully, however, users will be able to expand the storage with the help of a microSD card, thanks to the presence of an expansion slot on the device. The LG K3 features a 4.5-inch IPS display panel that comes with an FWVGA resolution of 854 x 480 pixels, supports LTE connectivity, carries a 1,940 mAh battery, sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
