The HiFi market has plenty of earphones for audiophiles to choose from, but there’s always room for more, especially when fresh products attempt to differentiate themselves with new and unique features. This seems to be the case with the Even earphones which were launched earlier today for the “introductory price” of $99. What sets the Even earphones apart from most other products in this category is the fact that they can be adjusted according to the wearer’s hearing. Not everyone hears music the same way or at the same volumes, and the company’s CEO, Danny Aronson, believes that the audio industry should develop headphones that take this fact into account. Apparently, the Even earphones do exactly that, using a technology called EarPrint.
To be clear, the Even earphones are not capable of adjusting volumes and frequencies automatically in accordance to the wearer’s hearing – at least not without the wearer’s input. Instead, the way EarPrint technology works is by providing a 90-seconds test designed to determine the listener’s hearing ability over eight different frequencies. Once the test is completed, EarPrint technology can adjust the earphones to deliver the best possible audio quality tailored to the wearer’s hearing. In other words, the Even earphones seem to work in a similar fashion to how the HTC 10 flagship tunes its audio frequencies for a more personalized listening experience. As for the hardware itself, the earbuds rely on 10mm dynamic drivers with a frequency range of 20-20,000Hz, total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 0.5% (1000Hz, 1mW), and 32-ohm impedance. Additionally, the system features tangle-resistant nylon fabric cables, as well as an inline remote control with call controls, playback and volume controls, and a microphone. The package includes a USB cable charger, silicone ear tips in three sizes, and a custom nylon case.
At the moment the Even earphones are available for purchase from the manufacturer’s official website exclusively in the US for the price of $99. However, this is a limited time “introductory price”, and additional pricing details are currently missing. In any case, it’s worth mentioning that the Even hearing test can be taken by anyone via the official website (source below), regardless of whether or not they own the Even earphones.
