If you’re a current user of Inbox by Gmail and value the collection of formatting options that you can find in other email clients like Gmail itself, Google today is introducing an update to the desktop version of Inbox that adds rich text formatting options to the existing formatting options that are already there like bold, italicize, and underline. Google states that the options are already available on the web version of Inbox, so if this is your primary way of using it you should see the new formatting options panel.
To see the new rich text formatting options, users will need to be composing an email, but the panel down at the bottom of the email window can always be seen and options can always be selected. As part of the new options, Google has added in a total of 11 different fonts to use, and you can change the font color as well as alter the size of the font out of the four different sizes including small, normal, large, and huge, while fonts include options like Comic Sans, Georgia, Tahoma, Narrow, Wide, and more.
This is a fairly small update so other than the rich text formatting options there is nothing else to look forward to on the web interface, for now at least. A recent update to the Inbox by Gmail Android app introduced a way for users to preview newsletters, allowing users to see things like calendar event notifications in a standard view, appearing similar to the way they would if you were viewing the event inside of the calendar app itself. It also introduced better link previews. This update also follows an update to the web version of the app from back in March that allowed users to “smart reply” to incoming emails based on the context of that particular email. Whether or not you ever modify any of the formatting options when sending emails, with the web version of Inbox now gaining rich text formatting at least the opportunity is there if you decide to change anything like font or font size. As stated above, the options are already live, so if you sign into Inbox on the web the options will be at the bottom of the window after hitting the compose button.
