This week saw Google Earth imagery being updated which has led to an increase in the sharpness of the satellite images used by the likes of Google Earth and Google Maps. As a result the next time you are using Google Maps, everything should look just that bit clearer and more defined. That said, the next time you are using Google Maps on Android, you might notice another change that has now taking place as well.
This change is more to do with navigation than the quality of the imagery and as such will certainly be more functional than anything else. In short, now when you are planning a journey or route with Maps on Android, the updated version will allow you to include multiple stop-off points on the way. While this sounds like a rather basic feature in the grand scale of things, those who have often tried to set one route and include multiple stop points with Maps on Android will know just how needed a feature this is. So this will be good news for those who use Maps as their main navigation tool. It seems the actual functionality is rather simplified which will be of benefit. At the moment, there is no information on how many points you can add (if there is a limit at all) and the points are identified alphabetically with relative alphabetical icons plotted along the route, resulting in a nice and clean view of your multi-stop journey.
In terms of getting the update, it is currently unknown how the updated version is coming through as at the moment it is only user reports detailing the activation of the feature. Therefore, it does seem likely that the update is happening without the need for users to manually update the Maps Android app. Although, this would mean that some users may end up waiting longer than others for the change to take effect. As per usual, the easiest way to see if you have the newest version is to open the app and see if the functionality is already live for you. If not, it should be soon enough.
