Xiaomi had introduced a number of smartphones thus far, but smartphones are not the only devices this company had announced. This China-based company also rolled out a number of smart gadgets, and even a new version of their Android-powered MIUI ROM. The Xiaomi Mi Max phablet landed last month, and alongside it, the MIUI 8 OS was also introduced. The new version of Xiaomi’s OS actually comes with a number of new features, and the UI design is also considerably different this time around, even flatter than it was before, which is something many users will appreciate.
That being said, Xiaomi had released a beta version of this ROM earlier this month. Beta is currently available for the Xiaomi Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, MI 5, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Mi Max and all Redmi phones. Once you install MIUI 8, you’ll get a revamped UI, new volume control settings, new notification shade, a ton of customizability options, and many more options. Now, one option which was not mentioned initially is the split-screen multitasking feature. Basically nobody expected this feature to arrive along with MIUI 8 considering Xiaomi did not mention it at all thus far, but it seems like multi-window mode will be available after all. For those of you who don’t know, multi-view or multi-window feature basically gives you the ability to open two apps on the display, one in the upper portion of the display, and the other one below it. This, essentially, allows a new way to multitask, though this is not anything new, we’ve seen this feature included in a number of devices thus far. Now, there’s a good reason Xiaomi did not mention this feature initially, they don’t plan to include it in the first public version of MIUI 8, but will add it in a later update.
Now, it seems like Xiaomi is planning to add more interesting features in future MIUI 8 OS updates, features that haven’t been mentioned in the initial changelog. We still don’t know what features Xiaomi plans to add, aside from split-screen, of course, but chances are we’ll find out in the near future.
