It’s 2016 and the Summer Olympics are back, set to take place in Rio between August 5th and August 21st. Even though the Olympics are officially a couple of months out from today, NBC is getting a head start on the games by launching the official NBC Olympics application in the Play Store. The app, which is free, will be a central hub for all things pertaining to the games once they begin towards the end of the Summer. Although there won’t be any 2016 competitions to watch at this point in time, there still looks to be a good amount of information in the app that you can interact with right now.
Once the games actually begin, naturally the app will have results from the different competitions and be a place to go where users can get access to the latest news regarding the Olympics. Right now the app does offer up video highlights of the past games and the U.S. 2016 Olympic trials. Video highlights will expand to include content from the games in August as well. At current the app also has a complete schedule of the competition, the medal standings from the 2012 Summer Olympics, bios for athletes, extra video features, and more.
After the games begin, additional features will be added to the app including results from each competition and medal standings from each competition in real-time. NBC will also be keeping the TV and live streaming schedules up to date so you don’t have to miss a beat, which will be good news for anyone who is a huge fan of the Olympics. The app will also make sure to keep you up to date on the complete USA schedule with full coverage of every competition they’re in. Relevant local coverage will be available as well, and for those who are watching on the big screen, the app offers a nifty little 2nd screen companion experience to enhance the viewing. If you plan on watching the Olympics later this Summer, this app is likely to be your best friend, although it is worth noting that NBC has limited the use of the app to the U.S. and the U.S. territories.
