Nest has introduced a new update to a feature called Farsight which the company is now rolling out to all Nest devices across the world, although it may take a few weeks to reach every device. Announcing the new update in a blog post, Maxim Veron from the Nest Product Management team said that Farsight will soon display more information like the current temperature along with the target temperature, weather updates and improved Energy History. Farsight was first introduced to consumers with 3rd generation Nest devices that were launched in September of last year and enabled devices screens to light up and display a range of information once you entered the room.
While earlier Nest thermostats displayed target temperatures instead of current temperatures, Nest Labs was aware of the fact that a lot of users preferred to see current temperatures even when sitting in another corner of the room. The latest update to Farsight not only meets their demands, but also brings in a new animated weather screen which can be activated using the Display settings on the thermostat. At the same time, Farsight has also improved Energy History views on Nest thermostats, making them look exactly like what you usually see in your Nest app. “People love Farsight. But we heard from a lot of customers who wanted it to show the current temperature in big numbers you can see from across the room. So now, it can,” said Veron in his blog post.
Even though Farsight brings in decent upgrades to existing Nest devices, the issue remains that the company is yet to launch a new product since it was acquired by Google a little over two years ago. Nest Labs did release Nest Cam exactly a year ago, but the device was a result of the acquisition of Dropcam six months earlier and not because of any “starting from scratch” effort by Nest Labs. However, recent indications have started to come through that a new Nest product is in the works and due to arrive soon enough. So it will be interesting to see what Nest brings to the table next.
