Nintendo has shared some interesting details during their second live day at the E3 games expo that’s happening right now in L.A. Niantic’s ambitious mobile game that is currently in beta for accepted field testers, Pokemon GO, has just been revealed to be launching next month for both Android and iOS platforms. If you haven’t been able to get into the beta to check things out for yourself, you’ll be able to get first hand experience with the game soon enough. Although the augmented reality game will be launching in July, Nintendo has not given a specific launch date for the mobile title that will allow users to search for and capture Pokemon.
For those not in the know about the game, Pokemon GO will let players battle their captured Pokemon against those of other players, and you’ll be able to capture dominance over Pokemon Gyms as well. Although there are loads of differences between the two, Pokemon GO, and Niantic’s other AR game, Ingress, share a few qualities, like the exploration aspect and the ability to control certain locations and battle for control between factions. For those who have ever played Ingress or at least know of its existence, Pokemon GO shouldn’t feel too unfamiliar. Of course, the game is still going to be an different offering with its own attributes and is sure to be a hit with fans of the popular Pokemon franchise.
In addition to the launch of the game next month, Nintendo states that the Pokemon Plus companion accessory for the game will be available further in the future, so those looking to get a hold of it as the game launches will still have to wait for a bit. Once the accessory is available, though, users will be able to pick it up for $34.99. The accessory will not be needed to play the game, and only serves to enhance the experience for players. Nintendo is also using Pokemon GO to tie into their mainline Pokemon titles for 3DS, so those who will be playing both will want to keep a lookout for what Nintendo has planned there. The game itself will be free, so those looking to test it out once it launches will be able to do so without having to pay anything out of pocket.
