Nubia, a company owned by ZTE, has now officially unveiled the Z11 Max phablet at an event in Beijing, China. The device comes with a massive 6-inch display panel, which is significantly larger than most mainstream devices, and is believed to be an attempt by the company to target the Chinese consumers’ growing appetite for smartphones with extra-large displays. The company had earlier launched the Nubia Z11 Mini which comes with a 5-inch screen, but its latest release now puts it in direct competition with the likes of the Mi Max from Xiaomi, which features a 6.44-inch display panel. Other manufacturers, too, have been launching large-screen smartphones of late, with the Xperia XA Ultra from Sony and the ZenFone 3 Ultra from ASUS being just two of the many cases in point.
Over the past couple of years, Nubia has launched some competitively-priced premium and mid-range handsets in China. The latest Nubia Z11 Max, meanwhile, has been launched with a clear target base in mind; those who prefer their smartphone displays to be larger-than-life. What’s interesting is that the company has also launched a limited edition version of the Nubia Z11 Max that will come with the autograph of Portuguese football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, inscribed on them. While the standard edition of the device has been priced at 1,999 Yuan ($304), the variant featuring Cristiano Ronaldo has been priced at a steep premium, with Nubia asking for a whopping 2,799 Yuan ($425) for it.
As for the tech specs, the Nubia Z11 Max features a 2.5D 6-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 652 SoC, and comes with 4 GB of RAM along with 64 GB of expandable storage. The primary camera on the Z11 Max has a 16-megapixel sensor with PDAF (Phase Detection Auto-Focus), an f/2.0 aperture and LED flash, whereas the secondary shooter happens to be an 8-megapixel unit with f/2.4 aperture and 1.4um pixel size. The phablet sports a fingerprint scanner on the rear and carries a 4,000 mAh battery that supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. According to Nubia, both versions will go on sale in China from the 16th of this month.
