The latest Samsung smartphone on the market is the Galaxy S7 which comes in two primary variants. One which boasts a smaller but more traditional Galaxy S display, the Galaxy S7, and one which comes in a larger display form factor and makes use of curved edges, the Galaxy S7 Edge. With this particular model of the Galaxy S7 seeing such a difference in display size (between the two S7 variants), it did seem to be the case that Samsung saw the Edge as a line all of its own. A point which may be far more salient than many had initially thought, as a new report coming out of Korea today details that the Edge variant might be about to replace the non-edge variant going forward, at least in terms of the Galaxy Note range.
According to the information coming through, when it comes to the Galaxy Note 7, there will be no ‘flat’ model. The information is very limited and unsubstantiated at the moment but the clear assumption is that this year the Galaxy Note range will only come in only one form, Edge-based. This is said to be a clear example of Samsung’s commitment to the Edge line as their new display standard when it comes to the Galaxy line of smartphones. If correct, whether this automatically translates to the Galaxy S line as well, currently remains to be seen.
Of course, this is not the first time that rumors have surfaced looking to confirm the existence of a curved edge Galaxy Note 7, with one of the most recent arriving in the last couple of weeks by way of a teaser image which all but confirmed an Edge model. However, much of the speculation (and other rumors) that has come through has suggested a non-edge (or flat) version would arrive as well. Either way, it is commonly believed that the launch event for the Galaxy Note 7 will take place in the early part of August with the 2nd suspected to be the actual date. So it is unlikely we will have to wait too long to find out if there is one, two, or more variants of the Galaxy Note 7 and whether it/they have an Edge, flat or otherwise, type of display.
