After what must have seemed like an eternity of waiting, owners of Rogers’ Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ are finally receiving their Android 6.0.1 update. Rogers’ owners have had to sit back and watch while Galaxy S6 Edge+ users on Bell and Telus send the taco emoji to their friends since the beginning of April. These Over-the-Air (OTA) updates are sent out in a roll out fashion, so if you have not yet received your prompt to update, go to your Settings, About phone, and then tap on System updates. This action will force your device to go out and get the update for you.
Besides some nice Marshmallow updates, this update also brings with it a ‘kinder and gentler’ Samsung TouchWiz, which should make it run smoother and faster. The big news for some will be the new emoji – Google put over 200 new emoji built right into stock Android and are available in the stock Google Keyboard app. Another nice feature of the new Android 6.0.1 is the Quick Camera Launch. By double tapping the home screen, the camera will launch and be ready to take a picture in under one second. Google finally unified the system and Bluetooth volume – this means if you connect to a Bluetooth speaker, headphones, or auto, there is no need to adjust both volumes…just use your volume button on your device to control both volumes. There are also improvements to the Do Not Disturb function to give you more control to set it to come on or go off at certain times and now allows the alarms to function – a feature removed in Android 6.0 but re-added in 6.0.1. Gone now is the lag in the Copy & Paste function and added features make it much easier to manipulate text.
Rogers’s latest update schedule shows many other devices getting the Android 6.0.1 update as “Coming Soon!” – the LG G4, Galaxy S7, and Galaxy S7 Edge will go from Android 6.0 to 6.0.1 – the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge going from Android 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 – the Galaxy S5 Active and Galaxy A5 will go from Android 5.0 to 6.0 – and the Galaxy S5 Neo going from Android 5.1.1 to Android 6.0.
